How to Check Your Samsung Firmware Version

A practical guide to finding your current firmware build number, Android version, One UI version, and security patch level on any Samsung Galaxy device.

Why check your firmware version

Knowing your current firmware version helps you determine whether your device is running the latest available software. By comparing your build number against our firmware ledger, you can see whether a newer firmware version has been released for your device and CSC region.

Finding your build number

The build number is the primary identifier for your firmware version. To find it:

  1. Open Settings on your Galaxy device.
  2. Scroll to and tap About phone (or About device on some models).
  3. Tap Software information.
  4. Look for Build number — this is your firmware version.

The build number will look something like S928BXXU3CYGA1. This alphanumeric string encodes your device model, region, and version information. See our build numbers guide to learn how to read it.

Finding your Android version

In the same Software information screen:

  1. Look for Android version — this shows the major Android version your device is running (e.g. 16).
  2. Look for One UI version — this shows the Samsung interface version (e.g. One UI 8.5).

These two numbers together tell you which Android and One UI release your device is currently running.

Finding your security patch level

Also in the Software information screen:

  1. Look for Android security patch level — this shows a date (e.g. 2026-08-01) indicating the latest security bulletin applied to your device.

Compare this date against our security patch tracker to see if a newer patch is available. A newer patch level means your device includes more recent security fixes.

Finding your CSC code

To find your CSC code, which determines your region and carrier configuration:

  1. In Settings > About phone > Software information, look for Service provider software version.
  2. The three-letter code in this string (e.g. XEU, BTU, XAA) is your CSC code.

See our CSC codes guide for a full explanation.

Checking for updates

Once you know your current firmware version, you can check whether an update is available:

  1. Go to Settings > Software update.
  2. Tap Download and install to check for available updates.
  3. Alternatively, connect to Samsung Smart Switch on a PC or Mac to check for updates.

If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to install it. Make sure your device is charged and connected to Wi-Fi before installing.

Comparing against our firmware ledger

Once you have your build number, visit our firmware ledger and search for your device. Compare your build number against the records we have catalogued. If our ledger shows a newer build number for your device and CSC region, an update may be available or rolling out.

Remember that firmware records on SamsungFirmware.com are labelled Verified, Reported, or Expected. Only Verified records represent confirmed releases.
