CSC / Regions

Samsung CSC codes explained

A CSC (Consumer Software Customisation) code identifies the sales region or carrier customisation applied to a Galaxy device. It controls which firmware branch the device receives.

Every Galaxy device carries a CSC in its firmware string. The CSC is not simply the country the device is used in — it is the sales region or carrier customisation it was sold with.

Firmware is compiled and approved per CSC. Two identical handsets on different CSCs can receive updates at different times, and in some cases different feature sets.

Multi-CSC bundles package several regions into one firmware image, which is why some devices update earlier than neighbouring markets.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Samsung CSC code?
A CSC (Consumer Software Customisation) code identifies the sales region or carrier customisation applied to a Galaxy device. It controls which firmware branch the device receives.
Can I change my CSC?
Cross-flashing between CSCs is a specialist operation with real risk and is not something we recommend to general users.
Why did my device update later than a neighbouring country?
Multi-CSC firmware bundles several regions into one package, and market approval schedules differ, so neighbouring countries can receive updates at different times.
