Frequently asked questions

What is Samsung Knox?
Samsung Knox is Samsung's security and enterprise device-management ecosystem for supported Galaxy devices, combining hardware-backed security technologies with cloud-based enterprise services.
What is Knox on a Samsung phone?
Knox is the built-in security and enterprise management platform on supported Samsung Galaxy phones. It includes hardware root of trust, secure boot, Knox Vault, device attestation and enterprise management services.
Is Samsung Knox hardware or software?
Both. Knox combines hardware-backed security (root of trust, e-fuses, Knox Vault) with software security layers (Verified Boot, kernel hardening) and cloud-based enterprise management services.
What is the Knox Warranty Bit?
A hardware-backed flag (stored in an e-fuse) that records whether a device has entered a non-approved software state. It protects the integrity of Knox-backed services.
What is Knox 0x0?
0x0 indicates the Warranty Bit has not been tripped — the device's boot chain has not detected an unapproved modification. Knox-backed services function normally.
What is Knox 0x1?
0x1 indicates the Warranty Bit has been tripped — the device has entered a non-approved software state. Certain Knox-backed services may stop working.
Can Knox be reset?
The Knox Warranty Bit is stored in a hardware e-fuse and is designed to be permanent. Factory reset does not reverse it. SamsungFirmware.com does not provide instructions to bypass, reset or spoof the Warranty Bit.
Does flashing firmware trip Knox?
Flashing official Samsung firmware through approved tools does not normally trip the Warranty Bit. Flashing unofficial or modified firmware, or using unapproved methods, can trip it.
Does official firmware affect Knox?
Installing official Samsung firmware through approved methods does not normally affect the Knox Warranty Bit. The boot chain verifies the firmware's signature at each boot.
Can Samsung firmware be downgraded?
Downgrading may be prevented by Knox Rollback Protection if the target firmware has an older bootloader than the device's minimum accepted version. SamsungFirmware.com never states a downgrade is safe unless verified.
What is Knox rollback protection?
A security mechanism that prevents a device from running firmware or a bootloader older than the minimum approved version, protecting against downgrading to vulnerable software.
What is Knox Vault?
A dedicated hardware-backed secure processor in supported Galaxy devices that stores sensitive credentials, performs secure authentication and protects data in an isolated, tamper-resistant environment.
What is Knox Manage?
Samsung's cloud-based enterprise mobility management solution for enrolling, configuring, managing and monitoring fleets of Galaxy devices.
What is Knox Mobile Enrollment?
Samsung's automated bulk enrollment service that provisions Galaxy devices automatically the first time they are powered on, without manual IT intervention.
What is Knox Guard?
A Samsung device-management and security service used by authorised organisations to enforce policies, monitor device status and control device lifecycle for leased, financed or corporate-issued Galaxy devices.
What is Knox Configure?
Samsung's device configuration service for creating and applying custom configuration profiles to Galaxy devices, including kiosk mode and corporate deployment.
What is Knox E-FOTA?
Samsung's enterprise firmware management service that allows organisations to control when and how firmware updates are deployed to managed Galaxy devices.
What is Samsung Knox Suite?
An enterprise package that bundles multiple Samsung Knox services — including management, enrollment, configuration, firmware control and analytics — into a single subscription.
What is Knox Device Health Attestation?
A process by which a Galaxy device cryptographically proves its integrity state to a verifying party, using hardware-backed attestation keys and Trusted Boot measurements.
Does factory reset remove Knox management?
A factory reset may remove the management profile, but this depends on the management mode and policies. Fully managed devices may be configured to survive factory reset. Contact your IT administrator for information.
Why is my Samsung phone managed by an organisation?
Your device may be managed if it was provided by an employer, leased, financed, or purchased second-hand from someone who had not completed their contract. Contact the organisation or seller for clarification.
